CHARLESTON, W.Va. -
Transportation Secretary Sam Beverage will hold a press briefing Wednesday,
October 25, to provide an update on AppalachianCorridor D construction
in Parkersburg.
Scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Dils Banquet Center at 6th
and Juliana streets in Parkersburg, the briefing will summarize the status
of three contracts currently under way in the area as well as upcoming
construction projects and the recently announced Ohio River Bridge design.
Displays will include photographs, engineering drawings and a short video.
Bizzack, Inc. of Lexington, Kentucky, is nearing completion
of a $4.6 million contract for grading and drainage on 0.814 mile of Corridor
D from west of 7th Street to east of WV 47 that includes 1,201,244 cubic
yards of excavation. The firm has also begun work on a $15.8 million contract,
which will complete the segment, calling for nearly 2.6 million cubic
yards of excavation to grade 0.2 mile of the mainline and relocate approximately
one mile of WV 47 east of its existing alignment. Work also includes construction
of prestressed concrete girder bridges. One is a three-span structure
replacing the Corning Glass Bridge to carry five lanes of relocated WV
47 over Worthington Creek, another is paired single-span bridges carrying
the mainline of US 50 over relocated WV 47 and one is part of a ramp over
relocated 7th Street.
Nearing the halfway point is another contract that will
facilitate additional construction on Appalachian Corridor D by replacing
Wood County Recreation Association baseball and football fields at a new
location, also allowing the property remaining after construction to be
used for soccer. Trafalgar, Ltd. of Charleston was awarded the $5.7 million
project, which calls for 214,218 cubic yards of excavation to provide
13 athletic fields, some lighted, at a new 40-acre Godbey Field site off
Gihon Road west of County 32 and WV 14 in southern Parkersburg.
