CHARLESTON - The West Virginia Division
of Highways will hold an informational public meeting Tuesday, July
16, 2002, in the cafeteria of Blennerhassett Elementary School on
Jewell Road off WV 892 in Parkersburg on additional alternatives
proposed for the Blennerhassett Island Bridge to carry Appalachian
Corridor D across the Ohio River from West Virginia to Ohio.
Scheduled in a workshop format from 4 to 7 pm,
the meeting will afford participants an opportunity to ask questions
and state their views and opinions on three types of bridges other
than the $140 million suspension bridge originally proposed. The
alternatives - a tied arch bridge estimated at $80.3 million, a
single-tower cable-stayed bridge estimated at $88.9 million and
a double-tower cable-stayed bridge estimate at $99.5 million - are
being considered in light of new information on cost and constructability
and a concern for stewardship of public funds. Information will
be available and Highways personnel will be present to discuss the
project adn receive public input.
