DOH Will Not Pursue
Bethel Road Bridge Over Corridor D

CHARLESTON - Overwhelming public sentiment from neighborhoods in the Blennerhassett area has resulted in Division of Highways abandonment of a proposal to construct a Bethel Road bridge over Appalachian Corridor D.

"Our engineers proposed the bridge because they felt it would lessen Corridor D's impact on local traffic patterns," said Transportation Secretary and Highway Commissioner Fred VanKirk, "but residents believed it would become a shortcut through a neighborhood subdivision. Therefore, Highways will not proceed with any further development."

At a May informational public meeting, DOH personnel presented three alternative locations for a $2 million bridge to carry Wood County 892/4 over the expressway. In addition to opinions expressed at the meeting, the public was invited to submit written comments.
