CHARLESTON-The first completed segment of new Appalachian
Corridor D, 1.9 miles from I-77 to WV 47 in Parkersburg, will open
September 8, Division of Highways officials announced today.
Motorists traveling westbound on US 50 from Clarksburg will enter
the new roadway at the I-77 intersection and exit 0.7 mile later at
the 7th Street intersection back onto US 50, while local westbound
traffic may continue on the new roadway to exit at the WV 47 intersection.
Motorists traveling eastbound on US 50 will enter the new roadway
via a cloverleaf ramp off 7th Street, utilize a temporary crossover
and merge back into the existing roadway at the I-77 intersection.
Local eastbound traffic from WV 47, however, will be able to utilize
the entire segment from that intersection to either the 7th Street
or I-77 intersections.
The portion of 7th Street currently providing access to Core Road,
Wayside Road and several restaurants and hotels will no longer be a
through route but will be maintained as a frontage road to access these
areas.
Bizzack, Inc. of Lexington, Kentucky, was the contractor on three
projects, totaling $36.5 million, that comprise the segment to be opened.
Work included more than a million cubic yards of excavation, a 16x8-foot
precast box culvert to carry Worthington Creek under the Corridor D
mainline and four bridges.
