Corridor D overpass bridge work will close Division (5th) Street

Washington, WV— West Virginia Division of Highways, District Three, announces a scheduled closing of WV Rt. 14 north (Division Street) to facilitate the procedure of placing the I-beams for the new overpass at this location, according to George Shinsky, Construction Engineer.

“Instead of holding traffic for a maximum of fifteen minutes while the contractor sets the beams, we felt that closing a portion of Division Street would be the least disruptive to motorists as well as the construction process,” Shinsky said.

“The availability of adequate alternative routes affords us the option of closing a portion of the route,” Shinsky said.

“Division Street (WV Rt. 14) will be closed at its intersection with Camden Avenue (WV Rt. 95) and at the intersection of Green Street,” Shinsky said.

According to Jim Winter, project engineer for the APD-50 Juliana to ALT-14 contact, the work to set the beams are scheduled for both Tuesday night, July 29, 2003 and Wednesday night, July 30, 2003, weather permitting.

“Since the overpass is two separate bridges, it will take more than one evening for the contractor to install all of the beams,” Winter said.

“Division Street will be closed to through traffic between 9:00 o’clock p.m. and 6:00 o’clock a.m., which is the off peak travel hours so the impact to traffic flow will be minimized,” Winter said.

“Motorists will need to allow for the additional travel time required to take an alternate route around the project area,” Winter said.
