Parkersburg, WV - West Virginia Division
of Highways, District Three, has announced a planned shift of traffic
flow for 7th Street at the I-77 interchange due to drainage work for
the new Corridor D alignment, according to George Shinsky, construction
engineer.
"The contractor will be installing a box culvert under
existing 7th Street just west of the access ramps for I-77," Shinsky
said.
"This culvert is one of the last major construction
activities to be performed before the new alignment can be tied into
existing US 50" Shinsky said."Also, a new right turn lane on the
southbound I-77 exit ramp and a traffic signal at the same location
will need to be constructed as part of the new alignment."
According to Mike Cronin, District Three project engineer
for the 7th Street contracts, the work will begin on Monday and construction
activity in this area will be ongoing until the end of the project.
"Monday morning the contractor will start removing the
median island on 7th Street and installing some concrete barriers and
temporary pavement markings to shift traffic flow," Cronin said.
"The work will be performed in phases where traffic is diverted around
the work area and half of the culvert is installed," Cronin said. "Then
traffic will be diverted again to install the other half of the culvert."
"Delays will be unavoidable so motorists intending to use this section
of 7th Street during these phases of construction are encouraged to either
find an alternate route or plan for additional travel time," Cronin said.
