Parkersburg, WV - West Virginia Division of Highways,
District Three, announces a scheduled closing of East Street to facilitate
the procedure of placing the I-beams for the new overpass at this location,
according to George Shinsky, construction engineer.
"Instead of holding traffic for a maximum of fifteen
minutes while the contractor sets the beams, we felt that closing a
portion of East Street would be the least disruptive to motorists as
well as the construction process," Shinsky said.
"The availability of adequate routes affords us the
option of closing a portion of the route," Shinsky said.
"East Street will be closed at its intersection with
Camden Avenue and just beyond the East Street Bridge with access to
Depot Street still available," Shinsky said.
According to Jared Evans, project engineer for teh East
Street contract, the work will begin on Monday, April 28.
"East Street will be closed to through traffic between
6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, which is the off-peak travel hours so the impact
to traffic will be minimized," Evans said.
"The overpass is two separate bridges and it may take
more than one evening for the contractor to install all of the beams," Evans
said.
"Motorists will need to allow for the additional travel
time required to take an alternate route around the project area," Evans
said.
